Leakage-free connection

Leak-free connection of hydraulic pipelines with metric cutting ring tube fittings

When it comes to the leak-free connection of hydraulic pipes and tubes with metric cutting ring tube fittings, precision is required and assembly safety is an important issue. In this context, for example, the danger of over-assembly and under-assembly is regularly pointed out. This usually results from disregarding the tightening angles to be applied, as they are clearly defined in the assembly instructions.

Less present with the user, but just as important, is the regular inspection of the assembly tools used, although the inspection of assembly nozzles for dimensional accuracy in accordance with DIN 3859-2 is even mandatory after every 50 assemblies.

In order to be able to exclude incorrect assembly due to defective assembly tools as much as possible, STAUFF recommends the regular use of 24° cone gauges for this purpose in addition to the purely visual inspection for obvious damage (scratches, notches, material erosion in the cone). With these inspection tools, the assembly tools can be checked for dimensional accuracy quickly and easily. Damaged and/or due to material expansion no longer dimensionally accurate assembly tools must be replaced immediately.

Tip: Frequently lubricating the assembly studs provides protection to the material!

Cone gauges are available for all assembly studs for manual final assembly (type FI-FK) as well as for machine-assisted final assembly (type FI-MFK).

They can be purchased individually for all tube connector sizes between 6 and 42 mm in the Light and Heavy Series as well as in a complete set in a practical case.

How easy it is to check assembly studs with cone gauges:

  • Clean the cone of the mounting studs thoroughly with a clean cloth.
  • Insert the axially aligned gauge of the appropriate size into the cone.
  • Assess the test results as follows:
    • Gauge cone protrudes slightly beyond the upper edge of the hole
→ The assembly stud can still be used.
    • Gauge cone closes flush with the upper edge of the hole
→ The assembly stud can still be used.
    • Gauge cone sits below the upper edge of the hole
→ It is mandatory to replace the assembly stud.

Please note: The regular inspection of the assembly studs does not exempt from the required visual inspection of the mounting results. After successful assembly, a raise of tube material must be clearly visible in front of the cutting ring.
